Privacy Policy
Who we are
This website is operated by New Path Couples Therapy, Inc., publicly known as New Path Family — a California nonprofit public benefit corporation and a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity. EIN 87-0816107.
3880 S. Bascom Ave., Suite 216, San Jose, CA 95124 · info@newpathfamily.com
We are a publisher of free educational material. We do not provide therapy, we do not employ clinicians, and we do not keep medical records.
What we collect
We collect very little, and only what we need.
If you subscribe to our newsletter: your email address, and your name if you give it.
If you use our contact form: everything you enter. That may include what you are looking for help with, where you live, and how to reach you, and some of it may relate to your health. We keep what you send us.
If you make a donation: your name, email and billing details, handled by our payment processor. We never see or store your full card number.
Automatically, when you visit: the ordinary technical information every website records — the pages you looked at, roughly where in the world you are, what kind of device and browser you used, and which site you arrived from. We use analytics tools to see which pages are useful. None of it identifies you by name.
What we do with it
Send you the newsletter, if you asked for it.
Answer you when you contact us.
Understand which free resources people use, so we can make better ones.
Meet our legal and reporting obligations as a charity.
That is the whole list.
Who else sees it
We use a small number of outside companies to run this website. They handle your information on our behalf, under contract, and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes. They fall into these categories:
Website hosting and email — the platform this site runs on and the systems we use to write to you.
Analytics — tools that tell us which pages people find useful.
Contact and enquiry records — where we keep what you send us so we can respond.
Payment processing — for donations, once donations are live.
We change providers from time to time. If you want to know exactly which companies we use today, email us and we will tell you.
The one time we share it with anyone else
If you tell us you are looking for therapy, an assessment or coaching, we will pass what you have told us to New Path Family of Therapy Centers, Inc. so someone there can respond to you. That is a separate California professional corporation under common leadership with this nonprofit, and its services are paid. We say so on the form before you continue.
This nonprofit receives no payment for referrals.
We do that only when you ask us for care. If you use this site only for the free material, nothing you tell us reaches them.
Once your information is with them, it is handled under their privacy terms, not ours. They will use it to respond to you and, if you go on to become a client, to open a clinical record. Ask them directly if you want the detail.
We do not pass your information to anyone else, for any reason, other than where the law requires it.
What we never do
We never sell your information, and we never rent or trade it.
We do not advertise to you based on anything you tell us about your health.
We do not require an account, a login or an email address to use anything we publish.
How long we keep it
We do not delete on a fixed schedule, so rather than give you a number that would not be true, here is how we decide. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Contact form submissions are kept for as long as they might still be useful to the person who sent them — if you write to us again, we would rather know what you already told us than make you repeat it.
You can ask us to delete your information at any time and we will, unless we are required to keep it by law.
Your choices
Unsubscribe from any newsletter using the link at the bottom of it.
Ask what we hold about you, and we will tell you.
Ask us to delete it, and we will.
Turn off cookies in your browser. Most of the site works fine without them.
Email info@newpathfamily.com for any of these. California residents have specific rights under state privacy law, and we will honor them regardless of whether we are technically required to.
Children
Our resources are written for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
This is not a medical record
This organization is not a healthcare provider and is not a HIPAA covered entity. Anything you tell us here is not a medical record and is not protected health information.
If you become a client of New Path Family of Therapy Centers, that is a separate relationship with its own privacy terms, and your clinical records are kept by them, not by us.
Security
We use reputable providers and take reasonable steps to protect your information. No website can promise perfect security, and we will not pretend otherwise. Please do not send us anything highly sensitive through a web form.
Changes to this privacy policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Material changes will be noted on this page.
Terms of Use
What this site is
Everything here is educational. It is written to help you understand yourself or someone you love. It is not medical advice, it is not psychotherapy, and it is not a substitute for care from a qualified professional who knows your situation.
Using this site does not make you our client
Reading, downloading or completing anything here does not create a therapeutic, clinical or professional relationship between you and this organization, or between you and any clinician.
If you are in crisis
We are not a crisis service and we cannot respond to emergencies. If you or someone you love is in danger, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), text HOME to 741741, or call 911.
Using our materials
Everything we publish is free for you to use for yourself, and free to share with someone you care about. Print a worksheet, work through a course — that is what it is for.
If you are a clinician, school or organization and you would like to use our materials with the people you serve, or host them on your own site, please get in touch. We are glad to say yes, and we would like to know where our work is going.
Beyond personal use and sharing, our content, name, logo and brand marks remain our property.
What we ask of you
Do not republish our materials as your own, or alter them and keep our name on them.
Do not use this site to harass anyone or to break the law.
Do not attempt to disrupt the site or access parts of it you are not meant to.
Links to other places
Where we link elsewhere, we do so because we think it may help. We do not control those sites and we are not responsible for them.
No warranty
We publish this material in good faith and we work hard to get it right, but we provide it as-is, without warranties of any kind. We do not promise it will be accurate, complete or right for your situation.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, New Path Couples Therapy, Inc. and the people who work with it are not liable for any loss or harm arising from your use of this site or reliance on anything published here. Nothing here limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page tells you when they last changed. Continuing to use the site means you accept the current version.
